Blueberries

Other names: blueberry, british: bilberry

Small, round dark blue, smooth skinned berries which grow on woody shrubs. Blueberries are very high in antioxidants (natural cancer fighting compounds). Blueberries are available fresh, frozen or canned and can be eaten fresh or used in cereal, pies, breads and cakes. Fresh blueberries are available almost year round with crops grown in the Western US as well as Chile.

Substitute for blueberries

Fresh or frozen blueberries can be used interchangeably. You may also substitute huckleberries OR raspberries.
